	Hard Rain [1998] Se flere produkter fra Amazon It may not exactly be a disaster movie, but this terminally silly thriller is certainly disastrous, and would be pointless without the novelty of its setting in a flooding Midwestern town during a torrential rainfall. Physically impressive but idiotic in every other respect, the movie pits an armoured truck courier (Christian Slater) against a smart leader of thieves (Morgan Freeman) and a corruptible town sheriff (Randy Quaid) who are vying for possession of $3 million in cash. A waterlogged game of cat and mouse, the plot is so contrived that even the most impressive action sequences--such as a jet-ski chase through flooded high-school corridors--are robbed of their already tenuous credibility. Before long you'll be yawning as incompetent accomplices are systematically dispatched by their own stupidity, in the kind of movie where the use of power boats inevitably leads to at least one death by outboard motor. 	Kiss of the Dragon [2001] Se flere produkter fra Amazon In Kiss of the Dragon, Chinese undercover agent Jet Li chops his way through Paris after he's framed in some sketchily defined drug sting operation. The fight sequences are tough and quite brutal, and the over-the-top finale is arguably worth the price of admission, wherein an implacable Li takes on the entire Paris Police Bureau, working his way up toward police chief TchÃ©ky Karyo's office through cops, a pair of peroxide-blond twin henchmen, and a whole class of kung fu cadets. Coscreenwriter Luc Besson ( La Femme Nikita) should know by now what makes for a nifty genre piece, but the woeful dialogue is a shame, and there aren't nearly enough action sequences to get your blood boiling. Poor Bridget Fonda gives it the old-school try in a thankless role as an ex-junkie prostitute from the Midwest whose young daughter is being held captive by duplicitous police chief/drug lord/pimp Karyo (who fairly inhales the scenery). Director Chris Nolan might have pushed further the strangers-in-a-strange-land camaraderie between Li and Fonda, but the script still would've sunk him. -- Steve Wiecking On the DVD: Kiss of the Dragon is a film that relies on its superbly choreographed fight scenes, so luckily the anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 widescreen presentation is spotless. The Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track positively shakes the room in the action sequences and atmospheric music by Craig Armstrong perfectly underscores the highs and lulls in the drama. Extras are plentiful: the audio commentary from Director Chris Nahon with Jet Li and Bridget Fonda is informative. "Jet Li--Fighting Philosophy" is a 12-minute bluffer's guide to Li and his life on and off-screen. "Cory Yuen--Action Academy" is about the work of long-time Li collaborator Yuen and details his fighting methodology. The "Police Gymnasium Fight: Martial Arts Demo" follows Yuen and fellow stuntmen blocking the stunning battle sequence. 	From Beyond The Grave [1973] Se flere produkter fra Amazon From Beyond the Grave is an anthology film adapted from four short stories by R. Chetwynd-Hayes, strung together under the pretext of an antique dealer who owns a shop called Temptations Ltd. and the fate that befalls his customers who try to cheat him. First up is "The Gate Crasher" with David Warner who frees an evil entity from an antique mirror; then "An Act of Kindness" featuring Donald Pleasence; followed by "The Elemental;" and "The Door." From Beyond The Grave was the directorial debut of Kevin Connor who would go onto become a modest name in genre cinema. It was actually one of Connor's best films and he demonstrates exceptional directorial style. Particularly good are the seance scenes in the first episode where Connor conducts some inventive 360-degree pan shots with a candle that explodes between a flickering flame and a jet in the foreground. The murders in this segment are vividly staged, with Connor creating some marvelously sinister images of David Warner standing about in bloodstained clothes and a totally wrecked apartment. --Sally Giles Inkl. fragt: Ukendt	Pris 81.06,-
	Tchaikovsky: Pique Dame (The Queen of Spades) [1992] Se flere produkter fra Amazon In terms of vocal power, lyrical beauty and idiomatic authenticity, the casting for this 1992 live recording of the Kirov production of Pique Dame ("The Queen of Spades") could hardly be bettered. Gegam Grigorian (Herman) hits his fearsome, anguished high notes with the accuracy of a laser and Maria Gulegina (Liza) has a voice the size of the QEII but uses it with great subtlety--her opening duet with Pauline floats like gossamer, and her declarations of love for Herman at the end of Act 1 are spine-tingling. Kirov superstars Sergei Leiferkus (Tomsky) and rich-toned Olga Borodina (Pauline) also sound divine. In the pit Valery Gergiev renders every nuance of Tchaikovsky's score with clarity, and drives the strings to produce an almost unbearably tense atmosphere of foreboding; Herman's manslaughter of the Countess is preceded by shallow, haunted phrases which rise and fall like a beating heart. It isn't all rosy, however. The production comes from the traditional old Kirov "stand-and-sing" tradition and is somewhat static. The characters don't interact with much detail or generate much chemistry, and the chorus moves in unwieldy blocks. For a more gripping production (though not quite as well sung) try the Glyndebourne performance. But for sheer musical pleasure, you won't find anything to beat this. On the DVD: Pique Dame doesn't feature particularly inventive camerawork, though it does give a good solid account of the production. The sound recording captures all the most important moments with clarity, though just occasionally singers stray away from the microphones. 	Only Fools and Horses - Miami Twice [1981] Se flere produkter fra Amazon The 1991 Christmas Special of the best-loved UK sitcom of its time, Only Fools and Horses: Miami Twice is a two-parter which takes Del Boy and Rodney on a transatlantic jaunt that turns out to be more than the jolly boys' excursion they'd bargained for. The action begins in Peckham, with the christening of Del's recently born child Damien. Never without an eye for the main chance, Del takes the vicar aside and outlines a scheme to save "vicar hours" and get a "nicker and a bit ahead" by "pre-blessing" lorry loads of Romanian wine he's arranged to be imported, selling them on to other clergymen. Rodney, meanwhile, has received a pensions fund rebate and Del unscrupulously engineers it so that the pair of them jet off to Miami where he looks forward to showing off his leopardskin trunks. The first part of Miami Twice is classic stuff, featuring the familiar ensemble with some vintage idiocy from Trigger and some hilarious farce involving a baby intercom. The second part, however, set in America, is a let-down, involving as it does a rather lame and far-fetched plot in which Del turns out to be the double of a local Don (an excuse for David Jason to deliver a hackneyed Godfather impersonation). A cameo from Richard Branson feels like product placement and generally the Trotters feel all at sea when off their home turf. A Christmas audience, stuffed with pudding, would have indulged this over-rich fare but there's no reason to come back for seconds. Still, it's worth it for the first 50 minutes. On the DVD: Only Fools and Horses: Miami Twice has no special features on DVD but holds up well visually, albeit unable to rid the original of blights such as a distracting burst of studio light in the first part. -- David Stubbs Inkl. fragt: Ukendt	Pris 56.69,-
	Once Upon A Time In China III [1993] Se flere produkter fra Amazon Set in the era when China was just beginning to establish relations with Europe, Once upon a Time in China 3 is a mixture of politics, intrigue, broad comedy, and kung fu action. Charismatic Jet Li stars once again as Wong Fei-hung, a legendary Chinese hero who is a doctor, a pacifist, and an amazingly skilled martial artist. Like many Hong Kong films, this movie has a woefully complicated plot: in summary, a kung fu competition not only sparks a bitter rivalry between different martial-arts associations, it also becomes the linchpin in an assassination plot. But this leaves out Wong Fei-hung's increasingly romantic relationship with his aunt (played by Rosamund Kwan), the rehabilitation of one of the villain's henchmen, and the introduction of a steam engine to a Chinese factory, among other subplots. Once upon a Time in China 3 is not the strongest in the series--the subtitling is unusually clumsy, the editing is rough, the plot is confusing, and the melodrama is more crudely played than in the other films--but there's still a clear, raw authority to the storytelling that is a hallmark of director-producer Hark Tsui (Peking Opera Blues, Green Snake). Though it seems to have been made in a rush, Once upon a Time in China 3 will still reward devotees of Hong Kong films, and the frequent and wild fight scenes will appeal to action fans. -- Bret Fetzer --This text refers to the DVD edition of this video. 	Jean Michel Jarre - Jarre In China (2 DVDs and Live CD Album) Se flere produkter fra Amazon In 1981 Jean Michel Jarre was invited by the Chinese government to become the first western musician to perform in the People's Republic of China. Performing 5 concerts in Beijing and Shanghai the tour encountered numerous problems including arriving at an arena to find only one power socket and having to buy back concert tickets from stone-faced VIPs and redistribute them free to the Chinese public. October 2004 and Jarre returns to Beijing with 70 tonnes of equipment to open China's "Year of France" cultural exchange with an outdoor concert. Choosing a picturesque location at Wumen Gate in the Forbidden City, Jarre performed with both modern and traditional Chinese Orchestras, choir, opera singers, and several guest musicians including Chen Lin, and guitarist Patrick Rondat. Jarre was prevented from performing with China's Cui Jian whose songs were sung by student demonstrators in 1989. Filmed in high definition and presented in 5.1 DTS and Dolby Digital surround sound (both at the concert and on DVD) the complete concert is presented. It looks and sounds fantastic, in no small part due to the THX mastering, a first for a music DVD. Jarre makes extensive use of new photographic projections on giant 3D inflatable screens, the laser harp, Theremin, and midi flute. The music is varied but would have benefited from band musicians on stage as the music sounds all too similar to the recent "Aero" album apart from some Chinese instrumentation. Jarre looks lonely on stage and recounts a similar track listing from the last 8 years. Highlights include "Voyage to Beijing" as well as the essential "Souvenir of China" and a highly orchestrated "Rendez Vous 2." Straight after the concert in the Forbidden City, Jarre travels by motorbike through the audience to Tian'anmen Sqaure where he played a small number of songs to the expectant Chinese crowd. A great idea to play a second concert, but a missed opportunity to play some better tracks like "Eldorado" or "Chronologie 4." 	xXx [2002] Se flere produkter fra Amazon For a movie that would like to think of itself as the future of the action / espionage picture, xXx uses a surprising number of jokes and stunts lifted directly from the Roger Moore Bond era while the actual premise resembles a sex-change for Nikita. Vin Diesel's Xander Cage--an extreme sports daredevil recruited by spymaster Samuel L Jackson for a covert mission in Prague--may be Blofeld-bald, pumped-up with testosterone, tattooed like a graffiti-covered wall and given to driving sports cars off bridges for fun, but he turns out to be a disappointingly square goodie-goodie when the quips and bullets are flying. Even the slinky heroine (Asia Argento), a double agent within a mad ex-Soviet gang called Anarchy 99, laughs at the idea that a walking cue ball with three Xs tattooed on his neck could ever be a secret agent. There's one stunt scene that will be remembered as a classic, as xXx triggers an avalanche and snowboards ahead of the fall. But there's too much of the falling-out-of-planes, straddling-and-defusing-jet-propelled-germ-bombs, blasting-every-baddie-in-the-place business that makes it too familiar. Enough material for several great trailers, but next time they'll need a script. -- Kim Newman On the DVD: xXx comes loud and proud to DVD, with Dolby 5.1 sound and the kind of sharp screen transfer you'd expect for a movie of this magnitude. From beautiful scrolling menus based on the tattoo artwork to the brash music, this disc epitomises everything an extreme sports release should be: special features are offered in the "Zander Zone" and include a whole host of behind-the-scenes action and commentaries, made all the more interesting by Rob Cohen's reluctance to use CGI and Vin Diesel's willingness to be thrown in at the deep end. 	Giant (Special Edition) [1956] Se flere produkter fra Amazon The American domestic epic endured long into the post-war era, with Giant (1956) one of its last real manifestations. Director George Stevens gets real panoramic sweep in his adaptation of Edna Ferber's novel of social and economic change in rural Texas from the 1920s to the 1950s. Rock Hudson is imposing if uninvolving as rancher Vernon Reata II, constantly torn between his image and his humanity. As his wife Lesley, Elizabeth Taylor gives one of her most rounded performances as the Maryland girl whose liberal outlook causes friction within the social (and racial) mindset of the insular community as it lurches from rigid conservatism to mindless materialism over three decades. The film is best remembered for James Dean in what was his third and last screen appearance. He cuts a distinctive figure as Jet Rink, social outcast turned oil tycoon. The bravura of his inebriated speech before an empty banqueting hall would be no less memorable had his career not been curtailed days after shooting ended. The secondary roles are decently taken: look out for a teenage Denis Hopper, sallow but likeable as the gauche Vernon Reata III. On the DVD: Giant is evenly divided over two discs. Widescreen picture quality is excellent and the remastered soundtrack gives Dimitri Tiomkin's score a new lease of life. A laudable 56 chapter points are provided, with dubbing in English, French and Italian and subtitles in eight languages. A running commentary, though informative, is really for aficionados only, but the 45 minutes (on the second disc) of George Stevens recollections from heavyweights such as Herman J. Stars Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, Chow Yun-Fat, Jet Li and Michelle Yeogh all appeared in major Hollywood projects and directors John Woo, Ronny Yu and Tsui Hark directed Face/Off, Bride of Chucky and Knock Off, respectively. Another entry into this new era of entertainment is The Big Hit, directed by Che-Kirk Wong (who also directed Jackie Chan in Crime Story), executive produced by John Woo, and produced by Wesley Snipes. Mark Wahlberg leads this all-American cast in a played-for-laughs macho blowout. Rounding out the testosterone brigade are Lou Diamond Phillips (sprouting a gold-capped tooth and a dirty mouth), Bokeem Woodbine (who, according to this DVD's director audio track, wore extra socks where it counts), Antonio SabÃ to Jr. and Avery Brooks. Wahlberg plays Melvin Smiley, a nice-guy hit man with an ulcer and a severe insecurity problem. He's short on cash due to the spending habits of his unsuspecting fiancÃ©e Pam (Christina Applegate) and his girlfriend-on-the-sly Chantel (Lela Rochon). He and his crew decide to do a little freelancing and cook up their own heist to make a little mo' money--specifically by kidnapping Keiko (China Chow), the daughter of a Japanese businessman whom they target for ransom. Little do they know her dad is broke and she's the goddaughter of their boss. The Big Hit has action scenes aplenty (one of the stunt co-ordinators worked on Woo's The Killer and Bullet in the Head) and the same cornball sense of humour as other films in the Hong Kong action genre.
