DVD: Genesis - The Genesis SongbookSe flere produkter fra DvdooWhen Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford joined forces in the late sixties, their initial intentions were not to be recording artists in their own right but rather songwriters, writing songs that would ultimately be recorded by other artists. That initial plan soon fell by the wayside when in the early seventies the group secured a record deal and started releasing albums as Genesis. During the subsequent years, the group progressed from being at the forefront of the underground scene with the release of such albums as "Trespass" and "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway", to become household names upon the release of multi-million selling albums such as "We Can't Dance" and "Invisible Touch". By talking to the individual members of the group - long standing members Tony Banks, Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford, ex-members - Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett, Anthony Phillips, Daryl Stuermer and Jonathan Silver and the last singer Ray Wilson, we will discover what they consider to be their favourite Genesis songs, and the reasons why certain songs have a special place in the Genesis story. Frasier - Season 11Se flere produkter fra AmazonMidway through Frasier's redemptive final season (which earned Emmys for Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce), Martin Crane (John Mahoney) reassures his son, "Just when you think that you're in a rut and nothing exciting will ever happen again, pow, that's when it does." The same could have been said of Frasier's redemptive final season. Not that the multi-Emmy-honored series had ever really jumped the couch, but by its 11th season, it had lost some of its sparkle. And then, POW! Veteran Frasier writers Christopher Lloyd and Joe Keenan return to the fold. POW! Wendie Malick joins the seamless ensemble as brash lounge singer Ronee Lawrence, who becomes a love interest for Martin. POW! Daphne (Jane Leeves), underutilised since her marriage to Niles, becomes pregnant. POW! Frasier opens his own private practice. POW! Laura Linney guest stars as Charlotte, who becomes the hapless Frasier's own Miss Right. The series also benefited greatly from a stellar roster of character actors, who rose to the occasion of this gold standard series' final year. Penny Johnson (24), Sarah Silverman ( School of Rock), and Dan "Homer Simpson" Castellaneta christen Frasier's couch in the episode, "The Return of Maris." Jennifer Tilly is at her ditzy, delectable best as a pick-up in "Miss Right Now." Laurie Metcalf replaces Emma Thompson as Frasier's first wife, children's entertainer Nanny G, in "Caught in the Act." Always welcome are Bebe Neuwirth as Lilith ("Guns 'N Neuroses") and Harriet Sansom Harris as Frasier's unscrupulous agent Bebe (the series finale, "Goodnight, Seattle"). But Frasier was never about stunt casting. It's the writing, stupid, which, actually, was anything but. Episodes such as "Boo," "The Doctor Is Out," "Coots and Ladders," and "Caught in the Act" recapture Frasier's unique blend of wit and farce. The series finale, in which relationships take a significant turn and Frasier finally breaks out of that rut to follow his heart, is as satisfying as fans could wish. -- Donald Liebenson Fragt: Ukendt! |

Savage Garden - Superstars And Cannonballs: Live On Tour In Australia [2000]Se flere produkter fra AmazonSavage Garden, Australia's hottest export of recent years, are captured here in all their live glory as they hit their hometown of Brisbane in a triumphant sell-out homecoming gig. There is a fair amount of behind-the-scenes footage which serves to back up the roles that the two members of the band have adopted: singer Darren is the outgoing excitable one, attracted like a moth to a flame by the trappings of celebrity, whereas guitarist Daniel is the private and shy one, preferring to stay out of the limelight and just write songs. But with millions of records sold all around the world, sell-out tours, hysterical fans and a string of chart-topping singles, this unlikely pairing proves the old adage that opposites attract. All the hits are here--"To the Moon and Back", "Affirmation", "Truly, Madly Deeply", "The Animal Song" and others--but after a while the visuals do become very samey: with only two of them to look at, and one of them tending to stray away from the spotlight at every available opportunity, the poor cameramen don't have many options. The backdrop to the concert is a huge wall of multi-coloured blocks of lights, apparently based on memories of a trip to Blackpool (but without the rain, chip wrappers and drunken brawls, sadly). It's all very polished, and just a little bit sterile as it fails to recreate the atmosphere of the live experience. However, for those who were there it's a great lasting reminder. The DVD menu allows the viewer to choose multiple camera angles on a select number of tracks. -- Helen Marquis Fragt: Ukendt! |

M.A.S.H. - Complete Series 1-11 - The Martinis and Medicine CollectionSe flere produkter fra AmazonThis M*A*S*H-tastic 36-disc collection is one for the television time capsule. It contains all 11 seasons of this multi-Emmy Award-winning series. Adapted for television by legendary comedy writer Larry Gelbart, the series has long since supplanted Robert Altman's film in the public's consciousness. Life and death at a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean War doesn't seem like ripe fodder for a comedy series, but M*A*S*H masterfully balanced laughter and tears (less so in its later, more preachy seasons). It often does play better without a laugh track (a viewing option for all episodes). During its run, M*A*S*H survived several delicate operations, including the departure of Gelbart after season 4 and the loss of core ensemble members McLean Stevenson as Col. Henry Blake and Wayne Rogers as Trapper John (after season 3), Larry Linville as Frank Burns (after season 5) and Gary Burghoff (a veteran of the original film) as Radar (after season 8). The show thrived with the introduction of some new blood, Henry Morgan as "regular Army" Col. Potter and Mike Farrell as compassionate BJ (season 4) and David Ogden Stiers as elitist Charles Emerson Winchester III (season 6). M*A*S*H was honored with the prestigious Peabody Award "for the depth of its humour and the manner in which comedy is used to lift the spirit and, as well, to offer a profound statement on the nature of war." This was a sitcom that did not always leave you laughing, as witness the classic season 3 episode "Abyssinia, Henry." And throughout its run, M*A*S*H broke the sitcom mould with several episodes, including "The Interview" (season 4), in which Clete Roberts interviews the staff of the 4077th, "Point of View" (season 7), subjectively seen through the eyes of a wounded soldier and "Life Time" (season 8), which unfolds in real time. M*A*S*H boasted one of television's greatest ensembles, fully embodied characters who each became icons, most notably Alan Alda, who served with distinction as Hawkeye, the series' soul and conscience. John Lennon - ImagineSe flere produkter fra Film og SpilNarrated by Lennon himself, the release of this revealing and personal documentary is timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the performer's untimely death (December 8, 1980). Imagine: John Lennon was created with the cooperation of Lennon's widow Yoko Ono and produced by multi-award winning producer David L. Wolper and critically-acclaimed documentarian Andrew Solt (partners on This is Elvis). Backed by a monumental 36-tune sound track, the film draws from a treasure trove of material, including the musician's own collection of more than 240 hours of film and videotape, much of it never publicly seen. It was Ono who approached Wolper, announcing it was time to open Lennon's personal archives of films, writings and photographs in order to make the definitive movie of his life. Wolper agreed but not before he requested full control over the project. Ono agreed and what resulted was an unprecedented look into the public and private life of the superstar. Fragt: fra kr 19 |

The Very Best of 'Have I Got News for You' [1990-2002]Se flere produkter fra AmazonPresented chronologically, The Very Best of Have I Got News for You is a massive three-and-a-quarter-hour compilation of many of the funniest and all the most famous moments from the first 12 years of the BBC comedy satire quiz show. From host Angus Deayton's witty 1990 hairstyle to his double introduction for the DVD and video versions of this compilation, revel in the ribald rivalry as "TV's Mr Sex" struggles to control team captains Ian Hislop and Paul Merton. Relive such highlights as Paula Yates dubbing Hislop the "sperm of the devil", Roy Hattersley's stand-in, a tub of lard, and Germaine Greer and the infamous "F-me shoes" incident. See Boris Johnson get well and truly "stitched up" over an ill-advised phone call, Mr & Mrs Neil Hamilton accept their fees in brown paper bags and Piers Morgan totally fail to understand what makes the word "jam" hilarious. Other great moments include the controversy over John Birt's attempt to gag the BBC referring to Peter Mandelson's private life, John Simpson's good-natured account of his jungle trip, and Merton desperately trying to keep awake as Sir Rhodes Boyson droned on, and on, and on about, err... something or other. It's quite simply, TV comedy at its best. On the DVD: Have I Got News For You features a commentary with Ian Hislop and Paul Merton in which, rather than play for comedy, they talk interestingly about their memories of the various episodes. Nevertheless there are still some laughs to be had. Optional onscreen text provides a wealth of background to half-forgotten news stories, as well as usefully identifying the more obscure guests. Seven minutes of trailers are often hilarious, while a Newsnight feature intriguingly analyses why politicians go on HIGNFY. Terry Wogan tries to get the show into Room 101 in an extract from that show, and various politicians offer their views on the programme. The sound is functional stereo and the excellent picture is encoded to switch automatically from 4:3 to anamorphic 16:9 when HIGNFY moved to widescreen. -- G Fragt: Ukendt! |

Big Momma's House [2000]Se flere produkter fra AmazonNo one tries very hard in Big Momma's House, so your enjoyment of this Martin Lawrence vehicle pretty much depends on how much amusement you're able to derive from a guy dressed up as a very ample woman. The setup is of the eye-rolling, only-in-Hollywood nature: Lawrence, as detective Malcolm Turner, is after a killer, and apparently the only way to capture him is to pose as the bad guy's ex-girlfriend's grandmother, who--the film cannot stress this point too much--is quite large. Apparently, Sherry (Nia Long), the young woman in question--she's as attractive as Big Momma is, well, you know--is none too bright, for she falls for Malcolm's ruse, which of course ostensibly amuses mainly because it's so transparent. She at least has an excuse--she hasn't seen Big Momma in two years--but Big Momma's oblivious friends must be functional morons. Screenwriters Darryl Quarles and Don Rhymer didn't tax themselves very much, as they have Malcolm-as-Big-Momma going through fairly predictable motions--botching a meal and delivering a baby unconventionally (Big Momma's a midwife), but ruling at basketball and self-defence and protecting Sherry while trying vainly not to flirt with her. Paul Giamatti is wasted as Malcolm's partner; director Raja Gosnell's clunky sense of comic rhythm is bewildering, because he used to be an editor (he brought a similar lack of magic to Home Alone 3). Lawrence won't have anyone forgetting Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon in Some Like It Hot, Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie, or Robin Williams in Mrs Doubtfire anytime soon. Eddie Murphy in The Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps is far more accomplished, versatile, and funny. -- David Kronke, Amazon.com Fragt: Ukendt! |

The Pat Metheny Group - Speaking Of Now LiveSe flere produkter fra AmazonThere's nary a flaw to be found in Speaking of Now Live, a lengthy concert performance by guitarist Pat Metheny and his sextet, recorded in Tokyo in 2002. The musicianship is superb, the material (much of it drawn from the Metheny Group album of the same name) strong, the sound and visuals impeccable, the audience respectful... and therein lies the problem, such as it is. The whole effect is a bit sterile: there's little of the communication between listeners and players that can ignite jazz or rock shows in more intimate, less formal settings. Cofounders Metheny and keyboardist Lyle Mays, longtime bassist/coproducer Steve Rodby, and the three more recent members (multi-instrumentalists Richard Bona and Cuong Vu and drummer Antonio Sanchez) are all brilliant, versatile players. And it's nice to hear their interpretations of Jobim's "How Insensitive" and Metheny's lovely title tune from the film A Map of the World. But unless you get off on seeing a lot of close-ups of Metheny's facial contortions, listening to the PMG's recordings should suffice. --Sam Graham Fragt: Ukendt! |

UB40 - The Collection [2002]Se flere produkter fra AmazonOver the course of more than two decades, Birmingham's UB40 have become global ambassadors for reggae, a journey captured perfectly on The Collection. This programme is split into two main sections: a 26-track video collection and a documentary detailing their 20th anniversary concert in September 2001. Forgoing chronology in favour of a more random approach, the video selection is slightly disjointed on a visual level, leaping from decade to decade within the space of a couple of tracks. While they have never made a truly great video (most feature the band lip-synching in various places around the world) UB40 have certainly been prolific over the years. "One In Ten" and "Food for Thought", their earliest work, represented the sound of young, multicultural Britain just as well as the more lauded Specials. And while there have perhaps been a few too many covers in recent times, it is hard to deny the effectiveness of "Red, Red Wine" and "Kingston Town". Much of the success of the documentary depends on how interesting you find infinite shots of pony-tailed men wheeling flight cases, but it does provide an insight into the background to such an event (which took place two days after the World Trade Centre attacks), if not the band themselves. There is also some excellent live footage, featuring guests such as Chrissie Hynde, Freddie McGregor and Sly & Robbie--proof that, despite the critical sneers, UB40 have taken their place amongst the reggae greats. On the DVD: UB40: The Collection has excellent digital sound, while the picture is unsurprisingly far better on the later tracks. The documentary and concert footage, too, are excellent, the latter benefiting from a multi-camera approach. Seemingly designed primarily for DVD rather than simply a VHS upgrade, this impressive package is polished and viewer friendly. There are several interactive elements, including a year-by-year look at the band's history. -- Phil Udell Fragt: Ukendt! |

Rudolf Nureyev's Romeo And Juliet [1995]Se flere produkter fra AmazonThe combination of Prokofiev's masterful score with Nureyev's choreography for the ballet company of the Paris Opera could hardly make this Romeo and Juliet anything but a success. However, as it's Nureyev, God is in the detail, and while the sheer exuberance of Manuel Legris and Monique Loudieres in the leading roles is undeniable, it's the little things that count, such as Romeo's shyness as he shuffles from one foot to another in the presence of the object of his affections (it's one thing to do dying swans and amorous raptures, but not everyone can effectively choreograph a fidget). The production is visually stunning, although there's an am-dram overstatedness to the glary lighting thatcan take one aback somewhat. What's very good indeed, however, is the presence of surround and stereo audio options and a multi-angle option, which are all too often omitted altogether from dance DVDs. The booklet notes are detailed but unfussy. --Roger Thomas Fragt: Ukendt! |

Robbie Williams - The Robbie Williams Show [2002]Se flere produkter fra AmazonThe Robbie Williams Show is the first of many products which EMI hope will recompense them for their huge investment in Robbie. Stylised as a kitschy 1960s light entertainment special, and recorded on one of the James Bond stages at Pinewood Studios, the show opens in a spectacular manner with 80 dancers perched behind the star on a 60 ft scaffolding set. Produced as a "live" and intimate TV special to promote the album Escapology, the show also provides further evidence of the star's quest to become an all-round entertainer. Between the songs, Williams teases and cajoles the audience with his usual patter of innuendo and self-parody. He also candidly discusses the multi-million pound record deal, his separation from long-time songwriting collaborator Guy Chambers, and his 12-month break from performing live. The show is faultless, and achieves its primary objective of showcasing the new album through a sensible mix of familiar favourites and fresh material. The dancers, musicians and stage set are also excellent, and provide further evidence of how Robbie Williams Inc. has become a mammoth enterprise with the fortunes of many riding on his success. However, his continued on and off-stage lampooning of his fame and fortune becomes immensely irritating after a while: change this record Robbie, before it wears you and your fans out. On the DVD: The Robbie Williams Show DVD reproduces the garish colours of the stage set and lighting, and the soundtrack (available in ordinary stereo, and 5.1 Surround) provides added panache to this light-entertainment spectacular. As well as the 23-minute backstage footage, comprising the standard Robbie-walking-around-with-no-shirt-on material, other extras include Hamish Brown's photos of the show, alternative versions of three of the songs, and footage rescued from the cutting-room floor of Robbie performing "Revolution". Extra footage can also be accessed following the successful completion of the "Follow the Lights" game. -- John Galilee Fragt: Ukendt! |

Body Weapon [1999]Se flere produkter fra AmazonBeginning with a savage murder and gang rape, Body Weapon (1999) seeks to combine psycho-thriller, romantic drama and martial arts action into a provocative 90 minutes. Chiu Man Chuk follows up The Black Sheep Affair (1998) as one of two Hong Kong detectives in love with the same woman, Ling (Angie Cheung). The urgent need to solve the introductory crime is soon forgotten while the romance is settled and Ling marries the lead's best friend. That said friend predictably ends up dead; less obviously the "heroine" deals with being raped by taking some very strange lessons in revenge from an unhinged transvestite. Both the psychology and plot mechanics of what follows are unbelievable at any level, the outrageous finale even translating Ripley's disrobing at the end of Alien in the most misogynistic of situations. The identity and motivation of the chief rapist/killer make no sense in relation to what has gone before and for a Hong Kong crime film there is very little action. The best that can be said is the stars give as good a performance as they can from very poorly conceived and exploitative material. The following year Chiu Man Chuk reunited with director Aman Chang for the action comedy Fist Power which was much better received. On the DVD: The anamorphically enhanced 1.77:1 image is good, coping with the many night and low-light scenes very well. Disappointingly, the sound is functional two-channel mono for both the Cantonese English subtitled soundtrack and the laughably clumsy English dubbed alternative. The "music promo" is one of Hong Kong Legends' own specially-made trailers, and is accompanied by more trailers for a further seven films. Also included are the original theatrical trailer and a photo gallery. Two minutes of poor-quality video show Chiu Man Chuk demonstrating some wu shu moves, while a four-minute interview conducted at the same time via a translator for French television does little more than reveal the star to be a pleasant chap. Alien Resurrection - Definitive Edition [1997]Se flere produkter fra AmazonAlien: Resurrection, the fourth entry in the franchise, is directed by French stylist Jean-Pierre Jeunet in a much more straightforward action-adventure manner than its predecessor, the dark and confusing Alien 3. This chapter is set even further in the future, where scientists on a space colony have cloned both the alien and Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), who died in Alien 3; in doing so, however, they've mixed alien DNA with Ripley's human chromosomes, which gives Ripley surprising power (and a bad attitude). A band of smugglers comes aboard only to discover the new race of aliens--and when the multi-mouthed melon heads get loose, no place is safe. But, on the plus side, they have Ripley as a guide to help them get out. ER: The Complete First Season [1995]Se flere produkter fra AmazonSet in a Chicago County General Hospital, the multi-Emmy winning ER is very much in the tradition established by the earlier Hill Street Blues. Like that series, ER also features a range of strong characters whose personal lives often reflect the turmoil of their working environment. It also similarly features a deft, fast-moving mix of comedy, intrigue and tragedy. It could also be seen as a precursor to The West Wing, in that we regard with some awe the ability of these characters to keep on top of the mounting chaos in their day-to-day lives and the myriad problems thrown at them. In ER, this chaos may mean crack addicts, violent patients tumbling through plate glass screens, vindictive colleagues or a chief of staff who insists that fellow surgeons operate on his sick dog. The first series is best known for introducing George Clooney to the world as the likable but maverick Dr Ross; the show has often featured star guests such as Sally Field and Ewan McGregor, among others, while several seasons have seen the coming and going of various personnel. However, if one character embodies the strength of ER it's Dr Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards), whose dedication to his job has seen him turn down lucrative and cosier offers in the private sector, and who is an exemplar of decency, selflessness and emotional stability. The episodes dealing with his father's death were among the most moving in the series, touching as they did on a theme never far from ER's surface, that of reconciliation with mortality. -- David Stubbs Fragt: Ukendt! |

Swiss Family Robinson [1960]Se flere produkter fra AmazonThe Disney touch is all over this grand, colourful version of the Johann Wyss adventure of a European family setting off for the new world of New Guinea. The film opens on a ship jostled and torn by a raging storm while a family struggles to make it through alive. Tossed into a reef near a deserted tropical island, father John Mills takes charge and the family soon turns their island prison into a veritable paradise. Their multi-level tree house, built in record time, is complete with running water and a working pipe organ scavenged from the ship, while their grand yard is abloom in English roses. As a tale of hardship and pioneer pluck it's pure fantasy, but as entertainment it's energetic and appealing. The island is impossibly populated by ostriches, zebras, lions and elephants, a private zoo that delights the youngest boy and offers plenty of comic relief. The two older brothers discover even wilder life when they rescue the prisoner of oriental pirates (led by hard-bitten Sessue Hayakawa). There's little real danger anywhere in the film: even the climactic battle with the pirates is a cartoonish affair, with coconut bombs and non-lethal booby traps, until the final desperate, deadly moments. Hardly a faithful adaptation of the novel, but a lush, beautifully shot film and an entertaining adventure safe for all ages.
