Doctor Who - Series 4 Vol.4 [2008]Se flere produkter fra AmazonSince Doctor Who came back to our screens in 2005, have we had a season finale quite like the one that saw out the triumphant fourth series since its revival? Certainly the final three episodes, brought together here on one DVD, saw the show out with one mighty bang. First up is Turn Left, an episode where the Doctor himself is left on the sidelines to allow Catherine Tate's Donna to take centre stage. It proves a wise choice, as Donna has to face tough choices and extreme danger on the way, when a strange encounter at the start of the episode puts the Doctor and many of his allies in mortal danger. Well constructed and as hard-faced as any episode in the series, Turn Left also manages to squeeze in the return of Billie Piper as Rose Tyler, and set things up for the even greater dangers that lie ahead. Those dangers really come to a head in The Stolen Earth, a hugely ambitious blockbuster of an episode that throws in a stunning cliffhanger to top things off. It brings back the likes of Martha Jones, Captain Jack Harkness and Sarah-Jane Smith, but ultimately finds the Doctor facing one of his deadliest enemies, in the shape of the maniacally evil Davros (with a little help from his new army of Daleks). And if the cliffhanger is squandered a little by Journey's End, the final episode of the series, there's so much crammed in that it's hard to quarrel too much. It's a boisterous, ambitious 65 minutes with action, resolution and one or two clumsy steps. Yet while it doesn't quite measure up to the majesty of The Stolen Earth, repeated viewings do show it to be a good conclusion to a terrific series. With regular episodes of Doctor Who now off our screens until 2010, this superb DVD--while bereft of extra features--could prove to a very strong way to help bridge the gap. Killer's Kiss [1955]Se flere produkter fra AmazonAn exercise in film noir fairytale, 1955's Killer's Kiss was Stanley Kubrick's second feature film (he had the first buried forever) and shows just how powerful a filmmaker he was right out of the gate. Followers of Kubrick's career will note the appearance of themes and images that recurred (a final axe-fight in a warehouse full of disembodied mannequin parts would not be out of place in The Shining), but this is also notably unlike later Kubrick films in its use of authentic locations and its 65-minute running time. The plot is a tiny anecdote about a washed-up boxer (Jamie Smith), a dance hall dame (Irene Kane) and a slimy hood (Frank Silvera) during one crowded weekend of brutality and romance. There's a sense of a young director playing games: the boxing match (a definite influence on Raging Bull) is all low-angle close-ups and subjective shots with plenty of thump and dazzle, and the traditional Expressionist look of noir is exaggerated with many a tricky shot or doomy plot twist. The three unfamiliar leads are all excellent as small-timers struggling with big passions, and there is already a potent use of raucous source music and subtle sound design to augment the stark, haunted black and white imagery. On the DVD Killer's Kiss on disc features no extras other than a blaring trailer ("a picture as brazen as the naked lights of Broadway, as hard as the New York streets in which it was shot!"). Chip and Dale were originally pantomime characters who bedeviled Donald Duck and Pluto in two dozen short cartoons. Rescue Rangers recasts them as adventurers who solve mysteries and right wrongs. In addition to a voice, Chip gets a leather jacket and Indiana Jones-style fedora; Dale talks and sports a Hawaiian shirt. They're joined in their escapades by Monterey Jack, a large mouse with a prognathous jaw and a bad Crocodile Dundee accent; Gadget Hackwrench, the inevitable spunky girl/mouse; and Zipper, a housefly. The Rangers' adventures play like a mixture of Disney's The Rescuers and The Great Mouse Detective, with elements of Hanna-Barbera's Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? stirred in. Chip, Dale, and the other Rangers outwit criminal cats, mad scientists, and crooked mice. All of the far-fetched stories seem to feature the same slapstick chases, Rube Goldberg contraptions, and villains getting their rear ends chomped. "Darmok" had the feel of a "classic Trek" episode, dealing with language as metaphor. "The First Duty" challenged Wesley Crusher's loyalties. The season closer "Time's Arrow" (which concluded in year 6) ranks as one of the best TNG cliffhangers, and treats fans to canon-changing story lines and tons of in-jokes. Best of all was the painfully melancholy "The Inner Light," in which Picard experiences an alternate lifetime. There were great guest stars--Paul Winfield ("Darmok"), Ashley Judd ("The Game"), Kelsey Grammar ("Cause and Effect"), Famke Janssen ("The Perfect Mate"), and Jerry Hardin ("Time's Arrow")--and as always there were contributions from Q, Lwaxana, and Barclay, too. After the confidence of the previous two years, however, year 5 often disappointed by not seeing a good idea through to the end. Denise Crosby was swept back under the carpet in the Klingon soap opener ("Redemption, Part II"). No one could make the prospect of Deep Space Nine attractive enough to Michelle Forbes, so her fantastic performance as Ensign Ro seems wasted in retrospect. And no one could reschedule Robin Williams to guest star, so we had Matt Frewer instead ("A Matter of Time"). Of all stories to use Leonard Nimoy in, "Unification" wallowed in Romulan politics instead of anything emotionally engaging. Gene Roddenberry wanted to introduce a gay character, but mere months after his death all we got was the trite "The Outcast." This was inarguably where the series weakened, without the Great Bird overseeing what was going on. Worst of all, his hard-as-nails bad guys the Borg were given a touchy-feely side in "I, Borg." Fans and critics now appreciate that the behind-the-scenes focus had shifted from The Next Generation to the next spinoff, and it would never fully return. Inkl. fragt: Ukendt |

The enduring charms of The Wizard of Oz have easily weathered the vicissitudes of changing fashions making the film one of the world's best-loved, most-quoted and frequently imitated movies. It's now as ubiquitous an American pop-cultural icon as McDonald's, making judging the movie purely on its own merits an almost impossible task. Judy Garland's tragic later life, for example, makes her naïve and utterly beguiling Dorothy seem all the more poignant in retrospect. But this at least is clear: much of this movie's success depends on the winning appeal of Garland's "Everygirl" figure, who creates the vital identification and empathy necessary to carry the audience with her into the land of Oz. We always care deeply about Dorothy, her quest for home and the strength of her friendship with her companions. Garland's assured dancing and singing routines with her ideally cast Broadway comedy co-stars Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr and Jack Haley are still endlessly delightful, of course, and the songs and score (by Arlen, Harburg and Stothart) are as good as anything in the Hollywood musical canon. It is Garland's deeply felt rendition of "Over the Rainbow" that is both the film's emotional core and the reason why adults as much as children the world over still respond so strongly to this movie. So long as people long for home and the love of their friends and family, the nostalgic appeal of Oz will never fade. On the DVD: another splendid digital restoration from the MGM vaults keeps this wonderful classic as vivid and alive as it was back in 1939, if not more so. The 1.33:1 picture is clear and defined, bursting with the vibrant colours of Oz (you can even see the wires holding up the Lion's tail). Even more remarkably, because the original microphone tapes have been preserved the soundtrack has been remastered in 5.1 stereo, thereby accentuating the lush tones of the MGM orchestra and Garland's famous singing. Side om side med bilfolket opstod parcelhus-folket med eget hus i "danish design". På Grønland satte man milliarder ind på at gøre et fattigt fanger-folk til en moderne vesteuropæisk fiskernation under dansk kommando. Folkeflytninger, fødestedskriteriet, danske og amerikanske tilflyttere antændte den politiske bevidsthed i den grønlandske befolkning. I Kbh. afløstes H.C. Hansen af Viggo Kampmann, som vandt valget i 1960 og regerede videre med de radikale, mens Aksel Larsen dannede SF. I 1962 overtog Jens otto Krag posten med Per Hækkerup som udenrigsminister. Lønnen steg dobbelt så hurtigt som produktionen, og Krag organiserede sit politisk-økonomiske mesterstykke: helhedsløsningen.
