Faron Young This Is Faron Young/Hello WallsSe flere produkter fra AmazonThese two albums, originally released, respectively, in 1959 and 1961, were recorded by the Louisiana-born Faron Young just as his career was beginning to get into gear: the Willie Nelson-penned title track of Hello Walls was his first country chart-topper and also a significant pop hit, and Young was to maintain a crossover popularity in spite (or perhaps because) of a somewhat turbulent personal life (among the many complaints of his long-suffering wife, when she obtained a divorce after 34 years of marriage in 1987, ws Young's habit of resolving domestic disputes by firing a shotgun into the kitchen ceiling). Such hi-jinks aside, it is for his voice that Young has been feted (Prefab Sprout once wrote a song about him) and should be eternally remembered, and these two glorious albums capture it at its finest: an elegant croon evocative of the gentlemanly Jim Reeves, tinged when necessary with menace and/or wretchedness. Especially intriguing here is "Is She All You Thought She'd Be?", delivered with a venom that suggests Young was not yet able to laugh about the night in 1952 when he was instructed at gunpoint to part company with his girlfriend by a jealous suitor (and, as it turned out, her future husband): a certain Hank Williams. --Andrew Mueller Fragt: Ukendt! |
