Original Soundtrack Full Metal JacketSe flere produkter fra AmazonStan Kubrick's 1987 take on Vietnam is a strange disorientating "wriggle" through film genres and human psyche alike, and the movie ends up as a kind of docu-drama road movie where the protagonists are being wasted one by one. The original score is by Abigail Mead. Admittedly she only had to come up with a few, eerie underscore themes, but they do their job, although unaided by images her mid-1980s samples sound a bit dated. The title track is a groovy medley over the Marine training camp's hilarious marching songs--a nice header to the album. The "Ruins" theme is an illustrative piece of film music, and "Sniper" a classic emotion-trigger. The soundtrack's covers-inventory has obvious post punk characteristics, the only music from the period is the raunchy "I Like It Like That". Stones classic "Paint It Black" never made it through the copyright trap, which is a shame, but lovers of grunge can enjoy "Surfin' Bird" by the Trashmen and "Woolly Bully" all the same. The sickeningly sentimental pro-war Country smoocher "Hello Vietnam" by Johnny Wright, and Nancy Sinatra's reminder to the "gooks" what's in store, "These Boots Are Made For Walking", illustrate Kubrick's dark sense of humour, as does the Dixie Cups' "Chapel Of Love". --Yngvil V.G. Beck Guero [VINYL]Se flere produkter fra AmazonGuero marks Beck Hansen's highly anticipated return to his partnership with the Dust Brothers, and the sound captured distinguishes this as the spiritual follow-up to Odelay. Guero is a lovingly crafted soundscape with few lulls and many peaks. High points include the opening one-two of "E-Pro" and "Guero", both of which are insidiously catchy and smartly humorous; "Black Tambourine", which sounds like a miniature reinvention of the Stone Roses' classic "Fools Gold"; "Hell Yes", in which Beck, armed with vocoder, returns as a great wielder of irony, taking potshots at hedonism; and the dustbowl rootsy blues of "Scarecrow" and "Farewell Ride", adverts for the neglected genre that are strong enough to make a next generation pick up harmonicas and slip on cowboy boots. As with Odelay, Guero's instrumentation and sonic textures are always changing. Everything is here--from string sections, celeste and organ (courtesy of guest keyboardist Money Mark) through 12-string and slide guitars, bass from Jack White, a good dose of colourful samples, and programmed blips and bleeps that recall Midnite Vultures' best moments. Beck is a true master of pastiche, but Guero isn't eclectic merely for the sake of it--instead, it's a constantly surprising, ever-revolving creation that looks at Beck's multiple talents through an entertaining kaleidoscope and which, backed by the Dust Brothers' formidable production, is damn groovy. In sum, Guero is what Beck's admirers have waited so long to hear: " Odelay 2". Where Beck will go from here is anyone's guess. --Jonti Davies Fragt: Ukendt! |

Sinead O'Connor Faith and CourageSe flere produkter fra AmazonFaith And Courage, Sinead O'Connor's first album in six years, is a marked change in direction from the pared-down urban folk beats of 1994's Universal Mother. For her Atlantic debut, she has embraced rock guitar, co-writing 13 tracks with a range of star producers including Dave Stewart, Brian Eno, Wyclef Jean and Adrian Sherwood. Featured here is "No Man's Woman", a strong declaration of intent ("I haven't travelled this far to become a man's woman") laced with raw guitar riffs and a subtle calypso flavour. Also distinctive is "Daddy I'm Fine", a loping, off-kilter look at being a rock star where O'Connor deadpans: "I wanna look good in my black leather boots.../I feel real hot and my make-up's nice/I'm gonna fuck every man in sight." In places, O'Connor's voice is swallowed up in a mix that's too FM-radio-friendly, but overall this is a resonant set of songs. --Lucy O'Brien Fragt: Ukendt! |

Franz Ferdinand You Could Have It So Much BetterSe flere produkter fra AmazonYou Could Have it So Much Better, the second album from Mercury Music Prize winners Franz Ferdinand is pretty much everything a band's second record should be: an assured, endearingly cocky return that builds on the strengths of its predecessor, and importantly, brings a few more tricks to the table. Beyond hipster quips and hedonism, however, Franz are busy expanding their emotional palette. "Walk Away" is a fragile indie soul piece, Alex Kapranos cooing "mascara bleeds into my eyes" over a tune reminiscent of London garage rockers The Flaming Stars (although it also features references to Mao-Tse Tung and Hitler, so don't be too quick to pin this one as a love song). Meanwhile, "Eleanor Put Your Boots On" nods to Dylan and Revolver-era Beatles, suggesting an urge to capture hearts beyond the dancefloor. All the same, though, a fabulous return. -- Louis Pattison More to Explore See more music by Franz Ferdinand Play Guitar with Franz Ferdinand (Guitar Tab) Franz Ferdinand (CD) Franz Ferdinand ~ Nicholas Artsrunik (Paperback) See more Franz products Fragt: Ukendt! |

JC Chasez SchizophrenicSe flere produkter fra Amazon'N Sync's younger fans are going to get a shock when they pick up JC Chasez's first solo album. With the release of Schizophrenic, this erstwhile boy-band member shows that he had a few impure thoughts during his band's squeaky-clean five-year run. If Justin Timberlake was the cute member of the outfit, Chasez was the hot-blooded one, and he's not afraid to show just how steamy by extolling his prowess, his proclivities and even the locations in his home where he has made love. From the athletic "All Day Long I Dream About Sex" to the feverish homo-erotic "Some Girls (Dance with Women)" he whips himself into a entertaining froth, but he doesn't really cross the lines of good taste until "Come to Me". Despite his dirty mind, Chasez has proved to be an adventurous auteur, taking his music to places where 'N Sync would never venture, serving up the dangerous swampy gumbo ya ya of "Shake It", dance-hall reggae in "Mercy" and a more sanitised version with "Everything You Want". But he's at his absolute best when he evokes the sweaty spectre of 80s dance pop on "100 Ways", treading in the same stiletto boots that Prince did two decades earlier. -- Jaan Uhelszki Fragt: Ukendt! |

Shania Twain The Woman In MeSe flere produkter fra AmazonShania Twain comes full circle on The Woman In Me, co-writing 11 out of 12 songs [the others are remixes and a CD-ROM video] and proving that she can do more than sing. Once again she crosses over into pop/rock territory with this multi-platinum affair, bringing legions of new fans into the country camp. Peppered with hits such as "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?" and "Any Man of Mine", this album features crisp and clear vocals and country-flavored pop arrangements. Husband and co-writer "Mutt" Lange, known for his production work with hard hitters Def Leppard, has produced a fresh sound for country, enhancing the traditional with a more gritty, gutsy sound; even the more delicate tunes resemble those power-pop tunes from the 1980s. Woman in Me is music for all occasions: danceable, romantic and powerful. --Paula Ghergia Fragt: Ukendt! |

Coup Party MusicSe flere produkter fra AmazonOakland duo Boots Riley and Pam The Funkstress (aka The Coup) have been mixing politics and pleasure all the way since 1994's Kill My Landlord and Party Music is no exception. Like an alcopop Molotov cocktail, their lyrical bombs are bolstered with free-wheeling funk and fizz. Think Outkast with socialist credentials, Eminem with a social conscience and you're mighty close to the potential populist appeal of The Coup. Their modus operandi is to mine classic funk and soul for licks, augment them with new sonic weaponry and turn them out into formidable fighting anthems. After kicking off with the analogue squall of "Everythang", Party Music never lets up in pace. On "5 Million Ways To Kill A C.E.O.", Boots unleashes a tirade of corporate revenge fantasies and then unexpectedly reveals his tender side on the motherly "Wear Clean Draws". Queens radicals Dead Prez rally around for militant "Get Up", brutalising the opposition with bass and an uncompromising lyrical stance. Later, Boots throws barbs at party-poopers who "Ride the Fence", while listing the extent of his anti-establishment/pro-revolutionary stance. Quite simply, The Coup preach the kind of party politics you can shake your ass to. -- Chris Campion Fragt: Ukendt! |

Busted BustedSe flere produkter fra AmazonConceivably, laddish London-based pop pin-ups Busted (or Charlie, James and Mattie as our daughters-with-attitude would have it) are what evil, plan-hatching marketing men ought to have in mind if they decided the music world needed to be taken over by a milk-toothed, mind-yer-"p"s-and-"q"s version of Blink 182. However, worrisome mums (or should that be "moms"--after all, car boots are "trunks", arses are "asses" and boyfriends get "dissed" not chucked in Busted's transatlantic teen-world) will find the lack of lyrical references to farting and fornication somewhat moralistically reassuring, although the peeping Tom confessions of hit single "What I Go to School For" and sexual fantasies about Britney ("I'll make you feel good inside") suggest that Busted's under-the-mattress porno stashes have yet to be dispensed with. Looking beyond the half-baked bad-boy image and linguistic schizophrenia, what you have here is three young guys with talent, tunes (they write their own, y'know), a decidedly English cheekiness, angry (well, perhaps slightly more cross than usual) guitars and--when they get it right--a hilariously understated way of conveying the calamity of a teenage social life ("I asked you to dance at the disco ... but you said no"). If only they could ditch the soppy ballad stuff and be done with it. --Kevin Maidment Fragt: Ukendt! |

Los Straitjackets The Velvet Touch of Los Straitjackets [VINYL]Se flere produkter fra AmazonLos Straightjackets is an indie band known for their Mexican wrestling masks and love affair with retro-surf sounds. While earlier records are playful forays into the genre, The Velvet Touch of... (their third full-length release) is the result of endless touring and the confidence that comes with it. This time out, while still reverential (their music honors the greats like Dick Dale and the Ventures), they wildly color the mix, with rewarding results. From the grinding swagger of "Rockola" to the blitzkrieg of buzzing guitars in "Hornet's Nest," Velvet Touch should appeal to rock fans of all persuasions. A hint of world music permeates tracks like "Tabouli," with its sensuous Middle-Eastern feel, and the brassy, Tex-Mex flavored "Tijuana Boots." The band brazenly turns Louis Prima's "Sing, Sing, Sing," into a swinging surfabilly number, and the Telstar-treatment of "My Heart Will Go On" (yes, from Titanic) is a showstopper, played with a keen awareness of Hollywood melodrama. (The best part is that they seem completely sincere.) This is an outstanding rock record, perfect for a dose of fun anytime. --Lorry Fleming Fragt: Ukendt! |

Ozzy Osbourne The Ozzman ComethSe flere produkter fra AmazonThe real reason to own this two-disc set is not to get Ozzy's greatest hits, but to get the "basement" recordings of Black Sabbath doing "Black Sabbath," "War Pigs," "Fairies Wear Boots" and "Behind the Wall of Sleep," as well as a hilarious interview with the Ozzman himself from 1988 (e.g. "I didn't think [Sabbath] were that good a band. We were all f--- up on drugs and booze all the time.) If you're an Ozzy fan, you'll definitely have everything else on this--from "Goodbye to Romance" with Randy Rhoads to his last single with Zakk Wylde, "I Just Want You." There is one unreleased track from the Ozzmosis session, "Back on Earth," but it's cheesy and unremarkable. --Adem Tepedelen Fragt: Ukendt! |

Gene Autry The Essential Gene Autry: 1933-1946Se flere produkter fra AmazonMore vividly than anyone else, Gene Autry captured the romantic paradox of the Old West: a wide-open independence and excitement laced with periods of deep loneliness and depression. "Back in the Saddle Again," "Deep in the Heart of Texas," and "Jingle, Jangle, Jingle" are jubilant celebrations of life on the trail. "Tumblin' Tumbleweeds" and "Take Me Back to My Boots and Saddle" are plaintive reflections about the lure of the frontier. "Mexicali Rose" and "The Call of the Canyon" long for the women he's left behind. "The Last Round-Up" offers the somber words of a cowboy on his deathbed. This wonderful 18-song collection trots from Autry's early Jimmie Rodgers-inspired yodels to his warm-voiced pop ballads, and serves as a definitive single-CD overview of the ultimate "Singing Cowboy." --Marc Greilsamer Fragt: Ukendt! |

Original Soundtrack Rugrats in Paris: The MovieSe flere produkter fra AmazonThis collection has a split personality. On one side, there's the youth Moment, led by 12-year-old Aaron Carter, the younger brother of Backstreet Boy Nick, No Authority and Jessica Simpson. On the other side, there are the established artists, who are true surprises. Sinead O'Connor? Cyndi Lauper? Isaac Hayes? So, it's a battle between bouncy pop with its hyperextended beats and clear skin and the ragged tone of world-worn former heroes. Things begin with a surprisingly mellow track from TLC's Tionne T-Boz Watkins (perhaps she can't figure which side of the fence to choose here). From there, the beats step up, and Aaron Carter, Baha Men and Jessica Simpson all deliver the kinds of catchy tunes you expect. Sinead O'Connor hasn't abandoned her sententious beginnings; even with the addition of hip-hop beats and a few random electronic noises, she still sounds as solemn as ever, whispering and singing softly. Former Spice Girl Gerri Halliwell updates Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots" without adding or subtracting much. A better novelty is Cyndi Lauper performing "I Want a Mom That Will Last Forever", a sentimental tune perfectly suited for her emotive reach. -- Rob O'Connor Fragt: Ukendt! |

Eagles Long Road Out of Eden (Deluxe Edition) (2CD)Se flere produkter fra AmazonThere can barely be an Eagles fan on the face of the planet, after waiting patiently for the best part of 30 years--ignoring the piecemeal (and some might say mean-spirited) sprinkle of new songs on 1994's Hell Freezes Over--that doesn't crave every last minute of this epic stack of original work. But then there also hasn't been a double album in history that couldn't have been improved by shedding at least some of its load and tucking its jeans into its cowboy boots. Long Road out of Eden is no exception to that rule. Much of the first disc passes by in a shuffle of fairly standard, although admittedly enjoyable, mid-beat country-rock (see especially "Busy Being Fabulous") and the appearance of a drum machine on the second hints at a frankly unnecessary dalliance with 80s MOR pop--and one they'd already avoided by splitting the first time around. It's music made by professionals, but lacking the classic, cinematic poise that has made Hotel California a mainstay on the best albums of all-time lists. But then the ambitious reach of the wind-swept, politically charged 10-minute title track really pulls things back, while the pleasant calypso drift of "It's Your World Now", near a cappella melody waterfall of "No More Walks in the Wood" and moody blues swagger of "Somebody" prove there's still just enough wind beneath these wings. --James Berry Fragt: Ukendt! |

Nanci Griffith Winter MarqueeSe flere produkter fra AmazonWinter Marquee, recorded at Knoxville's Tennessee Theatre on May 29, 2002, sees Nanci Griffith at her finest once again. Backed by her long-time band, the Blue Moon Orchestra, she gives her songs a grit and ebullience they have not always possessed on studio albums. Opening with a delicate cover of John Prine's "Speed of the Sound of Loneliness", she moves quickly towards a smooth treatment of Dylan's folky "Boots of Spanish Leather", a cover that, along with her own "Travelling Through This Part of You", makes you hope Griffith will become yet more rootsy as time passes. Elsewhere, there's an absolutely beautiful string-laden take on her classic "There's a Light Beyond These Woods", "The Flyer" is given new energy by a tom-tom beat and rolling piano, and Emmylou Harris provides vocal harmonies to "Good Night, New York", a new song by Julie Gold, writer of Griffith's hit "From a Distance". For fans, this is an essential purchase. -- Dominic Wills Fragt: Ukendt! |

Black Sabbath We Sold Our Soul for Rock 'n' RollSe flere produkter fra AmazonAn excellent introduction for one of the bands that set the standard for heavy metal. We Sold Our Soul for Rock & Roll features the original lineup of Black Sabbath, including Ozzy Osbourne on vocals; the songs are selected from the band's recordings up through 1975. The album features several classic songs, several of which are still on rock radio play lists: "Paranoid," "War Pigs," "Iron Man," and the ballad "Changes." There's also the humorous "Fairies Wear Boots," the vaguely psychedelic "Am I Going Insane," and the dark, macabre "Black Sabbath" and "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath." Most Sabbath fans will already have the albums from which the songs on this collection are taken. However, for the listener new to Sabbath, it's the perfect place to start. --Genevieve Williams Fragt: Ukendt! |
