Various Everton FC: Forever EvertonSe flere produkter fra AmazonIt's not easy being an Everton fan--glamorous neighbours, years of underachievement. Thank god, then, for the pleasures of song, where reality never stands in the way of a good lyric. With the best will in the world, even the staunchest of supporters would be hard pressed to defend some of the claims made on Forever Everton, but these are hazy memories of happier days when the boys were world beaters and Wembley heroes. Or at least that's how it sounds now. Fans will be familiar with many of the tracks here, including the Blues' towering version of the Farm's "All Together Now", one-time terrace favourite, "Duncan, Duncan Ferguson"-to the tune of Pet Shop Boys' "Go West"--and of course the classic Goodison Park calling card, "Z-Cars". Elsewhere, the material is a pleasing, football-tinged mixture of the idiosyncratic, the adrenaline-fuelled and the genuinely touching. The Strands' "Toffee's Tale" is warm-hearted pop that wouldn't look out of place on a Boyzone b-side, while "Ever Blue, Ever True, Everton" is possibly the most melancholy song ever written, let alone to appear on a football compilation. It also features a finely blown bagpipe--that classic Merseyside wind instrument. The most recent track on this 1999 collection is the FA Cup anthem of 1995 and until it becomes tradition to serenade relegation struggles or mid-table mediocrity, it seems fair to assume that updates will not be necessary for the foreseeable future. --Iain Campbell Fragt: Ukendt! |

However, if you're the most dedicated of fans and savour your cherished Cup Final programmes and drool over club history then this is perfect for you. The inoffensive chants like "Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur" are merely a backdrop for the periods in time when Spurs had their crowning moments. Excitable commentary replays all the winning moves from the double in 1961 to the Cup Finals of the 90s. Strangely overlooked is "Hot Shot Tottenham", Chas & Dave's anthem for the 1987 FA Cup Final, presumably discarded as the accompanying commentary would...well, enough said! Tottenham Hotspur FC Tottenham Hotspur FC: Glory GlorySe flere produkter fra AmazonIt's hard to imagine a football compilation by a single club that could spawn a colossal 28 tracks. Beyond the customary Cup Final re-makes (of which Tottenham had plenty), this glory box contains many of the unforgettable singles which confirmed the notion that footballers were the new Pop Stars. The rose amongst the thorns is definitely the 1980s power ballad "Diamond Lights" by Spurs and England internationals Glenn & Chris (or Hoddle & Waddle. If you prefer). Following closely behind is the Lindesfarne classic "Fog on the Tyne", given the 90s once over by cheeky Paul Gascoigne. The collection's most enduring features are the instant terrace hits by Tottenham's greatest supporters, Chas & Dave. Their song which really sums up the spirit and passion of the club is "Victory Song (We're off to Wembley 'cos we beat the Arsenal)".
