Petey Pablo Diary of a Sinner: 1st EntrySe flere produkter fra AmazonDiary of a Sinner is a cut above your average generic Southern rap and it's got some incredible, Timbaland-produced beats to give it some weight. Petey Pablo, whose gruff and agile vocals are buffeted by truly inspired party beats, is dead set on putting his home state of North Carolina on the map, and he might just be able to pull it off. A personality rapper who's less sugar-coated than Nelly yet not quite as gritty as Mystikal, Petey Pablo specialises in hip-hop anthems that might actually sound better flooding a football stadium than they would a dance floor. "919" in particular (or at least the clean version) is destined to become a pro-sports event favourite, down in North Cackalacka and he deserves to be heard. --Rebecca Levine Fragt: Ukendt! |

Oasis Stop the ClocksSe flere produkter fra AmazonTerrace anthem heroes or rock plagiarists: how will history judge Oasis? Well, if a band's Greatest Hits is their dispatch to the ages, Stop The Clocks -- a two CD collection that spans the ins and outs of their career from debut single "Supersonic" to 2005's sixth studio album Don't Believe The Truth - suggests that whether you believe they lost their way in a blizzard of cocaine around the time of 1997's Be Here Now or put their first foot wrong the day Liam first put crayon to paper as lyricist -- at their best they're quite simply at the top of their game. First up, a run-through the early stuff: band manifesto "Rock'n'Roll Star', their first chart-topper "Some Might Say", and its B-side, the acoustic, Noel-sung "Talk Tonight". In such context, later efforts like "Lyla" and "Go Let It Out" lack the obvious hunger of what came before, but they demonstrate exactly why Oasis got as huge as they did: their affinity for the stomping, Slade-derived swagger and runway-width choruses just perfect for filling stadiums and football fields. Fans who shelled out for Oasis' B-sides compilation The Masterplan might feel mugged by the decision to reprise four tracks here, but a genuine Oasis Best Of wouldn't seriously work without the presence of "Acquiesce". Live forever? These songs just might. --Louis Pattison Fragt: Ukendt! |

Divine Comedy Absent FriendsSe flere produkter fra AmazonWith Absent Friends the Divine Comedy's Neil Hannon finally establishes himself as one of the finest songwriters of a generation. Over successive albums he's slowly been moving in that direction--from curious pop novelty with an avid interest in camp kitsch to the sly storyteller of 2001's brilliant Regeneration. But Absent Friends is something else. He's still revelling in his supremely eccentric perspective--namely that of a 60s dandy who likes a drink--but now he's using it for dramatic not comedic effect. Quirky ditties "Come Home Billy Bird" and "My Imaginary Friend", respectively about a businessman trying to get home for his son's football match and invisible childhood playmates, manage to be both sweet and poignant. At the other end of the emotional scale, "The Wreck of the Beautiful", "Leaving Today" and "Our Mutual Friend" ponder love, loss and betrayal with a panache and dry wit that make the melancholy all the more staggering. And with sinister sweeping orchestras and eerie lounge--all Michael Caine in a sharp suit--echoing throughout, Absent Friends is a vintage masterpiece in every sense of the word. --Dan Gennoe Fragt: Ukendt! |

Vashti Bunyan LookafteringSe flere produkter fra AmazonFor an artist's second album to appear 35 years on from their debut suggests an unprecedented case of writer's block, but Vashti Bunyan can at least point to mitigating circumstances. An acolyte of Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham, Bunyan recorded one of British folk's great lost works, 1970's Just Another Diamond Day. That record's re-release and subsequent glowing reappraisal has led to a new generation of celebrity fans--Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, Four Tet--and with Lookaftering, a new suite of songs as beautiful as anything that came before. Bunyan's voice is high, stately and choiral, somewhat akin to Nico, had she been born not in Cologne, but some verdant English meadow. Accordingly, it's the perfect vehicle for these dainty, pastoral sing-songs. A number of musicians guest here: Devendra Banhart plays steel acoustic guitar on "Wayward", while Joanna Newsom contributes restrained but elegant harp to "If I Were" and "Against The Sky". But their performances are restrained and supportive, never threatening to overwhelm Bunyan's florid, fragile nursery rhymes. A quietly terrific return; consider this a case of writer's block shaken.- Louis Pattison Fragt: Ukendt! |

Queen Flash GordonSe flere produkter fra AmazonDialogue on a soundtrack album is normally a huge mistake. You smirk maybe the first few times, then grow rapidly frustrated having to programme out the offending tracks (if possible). Then there are those rare few where it would be impossible to imagine one without the other ( Pulp Fiction for example). Thankfully Flash Gordon belongs in the latter camp ("camp" being entirely appropriate in this context). The idea of using Queen for this sci-fi hokum was both daring and inspired. On the other side of the universe-friendly title chant of "Flash!" is a remarkably varied score. There are five principal themes ("Flash", "Love", "Ming", "Vultan" and "Battle"), yet there are plenty more. In fact, there are yet more in the film that didn't make it to the album--this is a straight digital master of the 1980 LP. Clap your hands to the Football game in Ming's Court, attempt the high notes in "The Kiss", find a keyboard that can emulate "Ming's Theme" today or just enjoy screaming "DIVE !" with Brian Blessed. Incredibly the band were only once called upon in a similar capacity again for Highlander. --Paul Tonks Fragt: Ukendt! |

Neil Hamburger Left for Dead in MalaysiaSe flere produkter fra AmazonThe charms of standup comedian Neil Hamburger are mostly subtle: the self-proclaimed America's Funnyman takes an Andy Kaufman-meets-Steve Martin approach to humour that usually isn't so funny at all. Or is it? For those who find themselves laughing at--rather than with--most comedians, Hamburger is worth checking out. His jokes vary from the tired to the horrific, and yet hearing all these clichés woven into one long set, you can't help smiling. On earlier discs we heard the comedian's priceless banter with fans at live shows in Albuquerque (New Mexico), Modesto (California), and Las Vegas and even an attempt at X-rated comedy. Compared with those discs, Left for Dead in Malaysia is more of a morality play--or is it a play on morality? Gone is the zipper shtick, gone is his manager Art Huckman (offended by Hamburger's ongoing ribbing, he walks out mid-routine), gone is an audience that understands English. But, left alone onstage in front of a club full of Malaysians eager for the karaoke hour, Hamburger performs one of his finest, most introspective sets, with heartburn-felt jokes about ex-wives, fast food, potato chips, and the Spice Girls. Irony-free lovers of standup, beware: you aren't going to get any of this. But for the rest of us, this high-concept, lowbrow take on standup is priceless--and Hamburger's finest moment to date. --Jason Verlinde Fragt: Ukendt! |

Iron Maiden Live After DeathSe flere produkter fra AmazonIn the live arena heavy metal can be implausibly powerful; it can rattle teeth from gums, set ears ringing like the clappers of doom and, when concocted by the gentlemen of Iron Maiden, virtually fracture your skull. Live After Death, meanwhile (a packed double disc set recorded during the band's extensive World Slavery jaunt of 1984 and 1985), is the awesome, irrefutable proof. Of course, expertly hewn slabs of solid rock carefully concocted in recording studios are all very well. But "The Number Of The Beast" and "Run To The Hills" were simply made to be blasted through 152,000 watts of PA system by five young men with undiluted testosterone pulsing through their bulging, whiplash veins. Bruce Dickinson's astounding lung capacity is frankly terrifying at times--he's certainly not a man you'd ever want to meet in a blow football tournament--while the band are virtually aflame. --Ian Fortnam Fragt: Ukendt! |

Kemistry & Storm DJ Kicks - Kemistry & StormSe flere produkter fra AmazonK7's hugely successful compilation series continues with the Metalheadz stalwarts producing DJ Kicks: Kemistry & Storm. As can be expected the mixing is beat perfect with a tracklisting which, though slanted towards the harder end of the spectrum, with tracks from Test, Full Cycle and Renegade Hardware, is kept balanced through the use of records such as Sci-Clone's much plated remix of "Everywhere I Go." Cramming seventeen tracks into an hour ensures a constantly evolving set with highlights including Loxy's debut effort for the Architecture label, Digital & Spirit's first collaborative work for Razor's Edge and rising star and Protocol label manager Bill Riley's vocal masterwork "Closing In." -- Kingsley Marshall Fragt: Ukendt! |

Shostakovich / Tchaikovsky: Piano TriosSe flere produkter fra AmazonAlthough these musicians have previously played together in duos, you are not likely to hear the trio of Martha Argerich, Gidon Kremer, and Mischa Maisky every day. The friends have attempted to perform as a threesome for decades, but it took sheer luck, and a few 1998 dates in Japan, to find the acclaimed pianist, violinist and cellist onstage together. Recorded as a tribute to Reinhard Paulsen, the late manager of Argerich and Kremer, this disc features two of chamber music's darkest pieces: Shostakovich's op. 67 and Tchaikovsky's op. 50 for piano and strings. Both composers wrote these works as elegies, and the effect of the pairing is riveting; the Shostakovich is bleak and occasionally violent (the use of Jewish melodies makes this as much a remembrance of the Holocaust as of any individual), while Tchaikovsky's epic, nearly 50-minute piece requires more patience but is even more expansive. Though the musicians have not performed these pieces before, they have an intuitive grasp of the music--Kremer seems meant for these lyrical, personal violin passages, and Argerich is ready to unleash her fury at a moment's notice. Sonically, Maisky's cello is slightly obscured by his powerhouse peers, but he serves as a sobering backbone to these compositions. The very short tango by contemporary Peter Kiesewetter acts as an encore, a two-minute reminder that these friends know how to have fun too. -- Jason Verlinde Fragt: Ukendt! |

Jon Bon Jovi Destination AnywhereSe flere produkter fra AmazonIt's appropriate that Destination Anywhere is an album by Bon Jovi the solo artist as opposed to Bon Jovi the band. For while it contains the requisite number of catchy tunes and the right amount of romantic drama, it varies from the band's output in two important ways. First, much of the material on Destination Anywhere is more low-key than the band's high-octane anthems, offering intimacy, if not exactly introspection, from Jon Bon Jovi himself. Too, there's an experimental edge to the music, with sound samples, programmed drums, and keyboard washes that are as distant from the group's albums as California is from New Jersey. Eurythmic Dave Stewart, ex-Hooters Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian, and perennial hit maker Desmond Child kick in some help on "Queen of New Orleans", "Midnight in Chelsea", and "Ugly". The album-closing "August 7, 4:15", meanwhile, is a dramatic rocker about the murder of Bon Jovi's manager's child. Overall, Destination Anywhere is a solid effort, with Bon Jovi flexing some of the same muscles he's building with his budding acting career. --Daniel Durchholz Fragt: Ukendt! |

Various Everton FC: Forever EvertonSe flere produkter fra AmazonIt's not easy being an Everton fan--glamorous neighbours, years of underachievement. Thank god, then, for the pleasures of song, where reality never stands in the way of a good lyric. With the best will in the world, even the staunchest of supporters would be hard pressed to defend some of the claims made on Forever Everton, but these are hazy memories of happier days when the boys were world beaters and Wembley heroes. Or at least that's how it sounds now. Fans will be familiar with many of the tracks here, including the Blues' towering version of the Farm's "All Together Now", one-time terrace favourite, "Duncan, Duncan Ferguson"-to the tune of Pet Shop Boys' "Go West"--and of course the classic Goodison Park calling card, "Z-Cars". Elsewhere, the material is a pleasing, football-tinged mixture of the idiosyncratic, the adrenaline-fuelled and the genuinely touching. The Strands' "Toffee's Tale" is warm-hearted pop that wouldn't look out of place on a Boyzone b-side, while "Ever Blue, Ever True, Everton" is possibly the most melancholy song ever written, let alone to appear on a football compilation. It also features a finely blown bagpipe--that classic Merseyside wind instrument. The most recent track on this 1999 collection is the FA Cup anthem of 1995 and until it becomes tradition to serenade relegation struggles or mid-table mediocrity, it seems fair to assume that updates will not be necessary for the foreseeable future. --Iain Campbell Fragt: Ukendt! |

Original Soundtrack Any Given Sunday OstSe flere produkter fra AmazonPut together the grandiose vision of director Oliver Stone ( JFK, Natural Born Killers), the larger-than-life world of professional (American) football, and the over-the-top theatrics of Al Pacino ( the Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon), and what do you expect? A quiet little soundtrack of introspective folk songs? No, this is a Wagnerian production in which the pace never lets up. Whether it's the protometal of Godsmack, the petulant whine of Courtney Love fronting the always grungy Hole, or the expletive-laden Kid Rock, the frontal attack is always overkill. Sunday star Jamie Foxx performs the title track, which, while subdued, still moves forth on an ominous note. Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott's track "Who You Gonna Call" has a sly sense of humour. LL Cool J (who also appears in the film) performs "Shut 'Em Down", sounding like a speed freak spilling the company secrets. Now, if only we could convince Pacino to rap. -- Rob O'Connor Fragt: Ukendt! |

S Club Juniors TogetherSe flere produkter fra AmazonS Club Juniors are a marketing manager's dream. Taking the successful S Club brand and making an even more child-friendly franchise by using children instead of pearly teethed 20-somethings, they have created a full length album, Together. Featuring the hit single "One Step Closer", which heralded their arrival, they are a bite-sized version of their older partners with the only difference (apart from age) being the two extra members. In addition to the aforementioned hit, there are all the subsequent ones too, plus a cover of the ancient teen classic "Puppy Love" to insure maximum cuteness, guaranteed to tug the heart/purse strings of many a parent. The Juniors may look like the cool kids from the school disco but if it's the music that matters they have all the songs, backing and smiley attitude of S Club seniors, making them ideal replacements should the original sextet ever part company. -- Georgina Collins Fragt: Ukendt! |

Sunshine Anderson Your WomanSe flere produkter fra AmazonEvery imaginable convention of the 21st-century R&B diva can found in the grooves of Sunshine Anderson's debut, Your Woman. It stretches itself in a dozen different moods, reeling you in from the first notes of her signature tune, "A Little Sunshine" and manages to be melancholic, laid-back, sensual and sexy all at once. Musically, this 18-track album captures the exuberance of Anderson's first name: lush arrangements, euphoric hooks and a soaring, swooping gospel soul voice. But listen closely and things aren't as sunny as they seem. From the great funk fuelled single, "Heard It All Before" to the dreamy slow-tempo swoon of "Last Night", Anderson tracks the highs and lows of love with enough depth to sate even the most soul-addled attention span. The production by Soullife's Mike City doesn't twang and lilt like Outkast or bob and weave like Timbaland, but his chilled out beats, tentative scratches and subtle flourishes make this more than "hip background music". Although Your Woman is a little too long, this timeless effort should sit comfortably with the retro classics of the 80s and the 90s as well as albums from the likes of Lucy Pearl and Lauryn Hill. Her superstar manager, Macy Gray should watch her back! -- Reuben Dessay Fragt: Ukendt! |

Belle & Sebastian StorytellingSe flere produkter fra AmazonGiven Belle & Sebastian's eccentric way of doing things, it's hardly surprising their soundtrack to the Todd Solondz movie, Storytelling, did not work out quite as planned. Plenty of bands have written scores to imaginary movies. Belle & Sebastian, however, have composed an imaginary soundtrack to an existing movie; only six minutes of this music was actually used in the film, and plenty was completed after the film was released. The weird thing is, it all fits together rather nicely. Storytelling is a more consistent beast than the last couple of B&S albums, with no obvious moments of real shambling horror. Instead, the discipline of writing (vaguely) to order seems to have made the band perversely less uptight. So Stevie Jackson's ambling harmonica piece, "F*ck this Sh*t", is a close cousin of his beautiful work with the Bill Wells Trio--and also, explicitly, Dylan's soundtrack to Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid. Amid the lilting instrumentals and snatches of dialogue from Solondz' fine movie, there are a clutch of quietly impressive songs. "Black and White Unite" continues Stuart Murdoch's artful reorganisation of the legacies of Love and Simon & Garfunkel, while on "I Don't Want To Play Football" he chooses to stereotype himself further as the sickly child always picked last at games. Best of all, there's "Storytelling" itself, in which Sarah Martin pursues the issues of authorial responsibility tackled by Solondz in the movie. "In directions, actions and words, cause and effect, you need consistency", she politely chastises, targeting Solondz as much as his characters. This is retribution, Belle & Sebastian style: truly, revenge has never been so sweet. -- John Mulvey Fragt: Ukendt! |

Barenaked Ladies Stunt - Special EditionSe flere produkter fra AmazonFor the fans, Stunt - Special Edition collects together a handful of "live favourites"--a term that's usually used to describe a track that's just too dull to be a single, but the band insists on playing anyway. Not so, here--the originals of the live renditions on Stunt - Special Edition date back well before the Barenaked Ladies broke internationally with "One Day", to a period where their brand of quirky, but assuredly mainstream college rock was making huge waves in their Canadian homeland. It's the breezy "If I Had $1,000,000" that most closely resembles the comical tumble of "One Day", with the audience screaming back the lyric "I bought a football team to prove that I'm a man/ I guess I shouldn't tell 'em that I like Duran Duran," like clever-clever lyrics are going out of fashion. Which, of course, they're not. --Louis Pattison Fragt: Ukendt! |

The Beautiful South SoupSe flere produkter fra AmazonYou'll hear talk of national treasures, and there's no denying that erstwhile singer Paul Heaton is as quintessentially English as they come. Given his service to pop over the past 20 years, he's fairly valuable too. But he's certainly not the shiny sort, "bling" was just the sound a football made when it rebounded off rusting goalposts in the park when he started making records--his value is more akin to a warm mug of tea and a custard cream from the corner shop on a rainy afternoon. For a newer generation perhaps only familiar with the likes of The Beautiful South's "Perfect 10" it's worthwhile going back to the beginning to see why. The Housemartins (also the all singing--if not all dancing--apprenticeship for superstar DJ Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim) were a very fine singles band indeed, rushes of acoustic pop and Humberside barbershop harmonies with all the keenness that youth can afford. A virulent "Five Get Over Excited" and "Happy Hour", alongside peerless a capella cover "Caravan of Love", stand testament to an all too brief career. This is where the Beautiful South took up the reigns with a more mature, but no less catchy or vocally impressive, output, spinning timeless comforts like "You Keep It All In", "A Little Time" and "Old Red Eyes Is Back". Soup is the first time the work of the two bands has been collected onto one disc and while 22 tracks is never going to do justice to such an expansive back catalogue, it's a splendid starting point. --James Berry Fragt: Ukendt! |

Ricky Martin The Best of Ricky Martin: Slide PackSe flere produkter fra AmazonIt's his continuous search for new ways to blend el ritmo, with elements of pop, rock and funk that has made Ricky Martin one of the biggest selling pop acts of our time and hence worthy of a Best Of collection. Nothing to do with his penchant for vigorous hip thrusting mid-video, or the fact that his name crops up on "World's Best Looking" lists with predictable regularity. But love him or loath him, you can't argue with over 30 million album sales worldwide. The by now brain-numbingly familiar ("La Vida Loca", "Maria", "She Bangs"), are interspersed with tracks that leave one with a strange sense of déjà vu--so disappointingly formulaic is the Martin production machine. Staccato riffs from the brass, football chants for choruses and enough samba magic to bring the 4th of July to any soporific Christmas afternoon with the grandparents. And all rounded off with a bonus collaboration with Madonna on "Be Careful" ("Live to Tell" combined with latino guitar is all very pretty). -- Ruby Tuesday Fragt: Ukendt! |
