The central simulation of golf is extremely solid and features the traditional three-click swing power bar, after touch, topspin, backspin and all the expected problems with wind, grass type and which club to use. The putting is perhaps a little over simplistic but apart from that this is about as realistic a simulation of golf as you could expect on the GBA. Although realism is king with the golf itself the rest of the game is as charmingly nonsensical as any other Mario game, even though you actually control your own more normal looking character (who can subsequently be uploaded to the GameCube version of Mario Golf) during the game. As mentioned the story mode is much more complex than any normal career mode and is basically a stripped down role-playing game, complete with experience points, shops and non-player characters to chat too. Players can hop into vehicles, with a pilot skimming over the planet's surface and threading narrow canyons while team members in the back blast enemies as they whip by. Each team's base are separated by miles of varying terrain, yet the transitions from outdoors to indoors are entirely seamless regardless of an installation's complexity. There are endless weapon loadouts and armour combinations to choose from, and equipment like targeting lasers and deployable defence turrets really add to the game's depth. For example, a player in light scout armour can quickly move to within range of an outpost, then illuminate it with the targeting laser for his heavily armed buddies crouching behind a hill. These heavies can fire their mobile mortars in complete safety with the knowledge that the laser will guide the rounds on target. This is just one example of the need for teamwork in Tribes 2. Graphically, Tribes 2 leaves a little to be desired in terms of detail, but the massive environments more than compensate for that shortcoming. It sometimes is possible to see enemies approaching from a few miles away, and those foolish enough to silhouette themselves on a ridgeline are soon dispatched by an enemy laser sniper they probably never see. Taking the essence of FIFA 2002 and modifying it for the world's greatest tournament, EA have restricted the scope of the game, offering only two modes of play (full tournament and friendly) and the 32 teams that are taking part in the tournament. That said, it still plays the same as its older brother and the look and feel given by the inclusion of the new stadia and enhanced sound effects really bring the game to life. Owners of the full-fat 2002 game on PS2 will want to think very seriously before shelling out for this "special" release, but for those who've not come across the franchise before, or those looking for a break from ISS 2, this game has entertainment by the sack load. Graphically it looks the business and the pre-match build-ups are eye candy to please any jaded palate. In-game, too, the player graphics are nicely detailed and there are some wonderful individual animations covering all manner of complex-looking moves, swerves and dives. Control is nice and simple and it's a breeze to pick this title up and start booting the pigskin around the park within a couple of minutes, though mastering the finer points of ball control and the elusive "lob in" will take a good deal longer. 2002 FIFA World Cup really does have a lot going for it. It's not as technical as the ISS games, and it doesn't have the scope or gameplay modes of FIFA 2002, but it does have atmosphere by the bucket load. Mothers return from the sea to reunite with their families and feed the starving newborns, while the fathers are finally relieved of their protective duties after months without food. The film is remarkable in its story, which is narrated by Morgan Freeman, whose dignified voice gives the penguins the grave admiration they deserve. But even more incredible is its photography, which shows the penguins hunting underwater, sliding on the ice, and in the midst of "kissing." At one point the camera even zooms inside the mouth of a penguin as it regurgitates for its young.
