When iPhone was launched, it became evident that it is unfair to compare it with any ordinary mobile phone due to its most advanced touch screen OS out there today. It was genre of its own, with scrolling, dialing, panning, zooming, touching and pinching functions to get around photos, maps, movies, music and phone calls. IPhone paved the way for Apple iPhone 3G and most of the glitches have been removed. Most of them, anyway
Features:
Design: Apple has kept what was good in iPhone. Its design. You can hardly notice any change from the front view, although aluminum silver back has been replaced by a plastic face that does disturb some aesthetic sense, but cuts down the cost and is less slippery. The new curved back makes the phone wobble, if you use it when it is resting on a smooth surface but that is a minor thing in itself.
Display screen size and resolution remains almost the same.
Headset jack is now flushed with the surface and now you can use
any kind of ordinary headset.
Email: Now that much demanded full support for Microsoft Exchange Server has arrived, you can synch your calendar and contacts easily, and you can open personal and work accounts at the same time. Synching via WiFi and 3G is just hoots.
Also here is Apple’s MobileMe, which allows synchronization with Mac’s mail, address book, iCal Apps, contacts, calendar, email and photos and browse bookmarks.
App Store: Another significant addition to Apple iPhone 3G is the App Store. It enables you to search for various available applications online, their updates and top choices. You can buy any application; quick download with WiFi and 3G, and easy management within Apple iPhone 3G. Prices vary among applications and some are free, but there is a large variety to choose from and it makes life interesting.
3G Network Support: 3G network support is definitely going to push people over the buying fence. It cuts downloading time from minutes to seconds, making browsing a breeze. But do check 3G network in your area before you decide to buy an Apple iPhone 3G.
GPS Locator: Enhancement in GPS locator really works. While walking it is much more accurate and updates very quickly, but while driving, its no-voice neither turn by turn navigator leave something to be desired for. So do not get rid of your car GPS navigators as yet.
Call Quality: Call quality has improved a lot even without use of 3G. The static that was very loud in iPhone has been minimized in Apple iPhone 3G, a lot. Also improved is speaker volume and maximum volume range.
Camera: Even with a slightly better camera results, the disappointment prevails for Facebook and YouTube fans, as it still does not capture video, has no self-portrait facility and no MMS functionality.
Language Support: Apple iPhone 3G now has language support and typing keyboard for many international languages.
Price: Priced at or below $200 Apple iPhone 3G prove to be a worthwhile buy for new users of handheld devices. Existing iPhone users gets most of the new functions except 3G and GPS with a free software upgrade.
Battery Life: The battery life in itself is ok, but using 3G extract some juice out of your battery life. Also due to high speed and multiple apps, you tend to use more of your Apple iPhone 3G, so it is better to turn off 3G if you are not using it and save on battery life.
Pros:
+ High-speed 3G-network compatibility, cutting downloading time by minutes to seconds.
+ Microsoft Exchange Server and MobileMe Expanded email support
+ App Store for 3rd party softwares, easy search and downloads
+ Enhanced GPS Locator
Cons:
- Most of the new features, sans 3G support and enhanced GPS, are available for 1st Gen iPhone
- Some basic functions missing like video capturing, MMS, self-portrait camera
