Canon seems to have an “if it ain’t broke” attitude when it comes to its PowerShot SX series. The zoom of this camera is quite good. The SX120 IS gets a resolution bump–it’s now 10-megapixels–and uses Canon’s Digic 4 picture processor, which along with enhanced battery life adds advanced face & motion detection features & improved red-eye correction. It is not much of a step forward, offering a small bit of new technology for the price of 2008’s SX110 IS. You also get the same excellent photo quality, which is nice, but ever-so-slightly slower performance, which is less nice.

3 things we don’t like about the Canon Powershot SX120 IS
• Fewer features
• Slower performance
• Bulkier design
Canon Powershot SX120 IS Review
For the starters this camera is quite good to get in a photography. This camera is not that light as it should have been. The controls are same as it’s previous models. Face detection, display, menu, & exposure compensation buttons are above & below the navigational scroll wheel to the right of the 3-inch LCD. The pictures of this camera are quite good. The wheel is a touch responsive, but it is only a real problem in Special Scene mode as it is always activated for either changing scene types or exposure compensation.
There is a Movie mode on there, , but it maxes out at VGA-quality without use of the optical zoom while recording & only mono sound. That is sad.
If there was a reason to pick the SX120 over a competitor it would be for photo quality, but it doesn’t win by much. Noise starts to show at ISO 400, but up until that point photos are relatively tidy & sharp, with nice detail. At ISO 800 photos have a mottled look, but loss of detail is still fairly minimal.
Canon still tops them in photo quality, the difference is getting smaller & smaller & less significant if your prints are not larger than 8×10 inches or for viewing on a pc screen, TV, or digital photo frame.
For trouble free shooting the Canon PowerShot SX120 IS includes Clever Auto & Easy modes with Scene Detection Technology. More experienced users can select their settings with additional shooting modes such as Aperture Priority & Shutter Priority. A full manual control mode is also provided – perfect for users who wish to experiment with their shots.

Final Words and Conclusion
The PowerShot SX120 IS also comes with the latest DIGIC 4 Face Detection Technology which recognises up to 35 faces in a scene and automatically adjusts key focus and exposure settings to ensure everyone looks their best. Face Select & Track also allows the user to select a particular face to be the main subject of the photo.
